Why do we write?
Because we want to be heard?
We want to be known, cared for, loved?
Why do we hide?
Maybe it's so that we don't get hurt.
Or that we don't hurt others.
Why do we hope?
Because without it, we can't change?
Or because it's the only thing we have left?
Why do we despair?
Probably because we think there is better that could be had, yet out of reach.
And that there could be something more, but we don't think we can get it.
Why do we love?
Because without it, we're empty shells?
Or that it's the only thing that can fill us up?
Why do we ask questions?
Because we long for rest and truth.
For without Truth, we are but ghosts, hopeless and forever lost.

  1. We write because we are filled with thoughts that demand an escape. Not necessarily because we need to be heard: sound simply makes momentary impressions. Not even to be known...we know who we are. Not just to be cared for, seeing that we have abandoned ourselves and our care to the understanding and extension of words. We especially do not write to be loved, or else many would go without love, for lack of literary expression.
We write because we have souls that are volcanoes of latent power, ready to pour forth a mighty offering. We write because we have hearts that ache with emotion, otherwise forgotten, neglected, or disguised. We write, oh, yes- the origin is Divinity! we write because we are made in the image of our Author.

  2. That is a very intriguing perspective. And certainly one that I have not thought of. Thank you for expressing that.
